History
The restaurant O ABOCANHADO was inaugurated in December 2002, having as its guiding spirit a couple from Porto, who had long fallen in love with the authenticity and rural character of the Village of Brufe. The choice of the name derives from the expression “the weather has snatched” or “in this bocanho”, commonly used by the people of Brufe, and which means that the weather has eased, the rain or snow stopped, both frequent in these highlands subject to harsh winters.
THE Architecture
The building is located on the edge of the village of Brufe, on a plot of land in the form of terraces looking over the valley of the river Homem.
The roof continues as a natural platform at the level of the road, highlighting the only visible structure, the service entrance, which contrasts against the adjacent rocky outcrops. In the lower terrace is the main entrance to the restaurant – with the service areas tucked in against the hillside and the public areas facing out over the landscape.
The orientation and placement of the building in the topography seek to integrate it within the surroundings, a feature which is further substantiated in the materials used: granite and wood – the latter of which constitutes the non-glazed part of the west elevation and which forms the horizontal platform of the esplanade.
